Meet MHI Student Funmi Giwa

Q. What is your background and education?

A. I graduated with my undergraduate degree in Neuroscience and Behavior from Vassar College in the spring of 2010. After which I spent 2 years at the University of California, San Francisco doing research.

Q. How did you develop an interest in health informatics?

A. While at work I met several people who were doing health informatics related work. Through discussion with one of my research mentors about the future direction of some of her projects and current grant proposals, I gained new insight about the the University's push for as well as national interest in a "digital health care sector."

Q. What areas of health informatics are you interested in?

A. I am most interested in Community Health Informatics and the Health Information Exchange Domain.

Q. What is your favorite part about the health informatics program at U-M?

A. I love the excitement of the staff and faculty, from both the School of Information and the School of Public Health, to have us here. I feel like I am a part of something groundbreaking.

Q. How do you plan on using your degree?

A. I am still developing a plan for my life after MHI. There is so much open to me right now that the trick will be narrowing down to the plan that is best for me.

Q. What's new in your life?

A. The biggest change in my life right now is my move back to the midwest for this program.
